Romeo & Juliette

Romeo & Juliette

2023–2025 · 30 × 40 cm · Collage, mixed media

The piece is intended to be read from top to bottom. At its center are Juliette on the left and Romeo on the right, shown in profile and turned toward one another. In the background, at the top center, a theatre audience is depicted, fully immersed in the play. The left side represents Romeo’s world—his life of romance, camaraderie, and danger. The right side portrays Juliette’s loneliness, portrayed in muted grey tones and framed by the recurring motif of the window. Between the two portraits, the lovers finally meet, and their passion and obsession ignite. The story of the two star-crossed lovers reaches its tragic culmination in their deaths, depicted at the bottom of the composition. The collage is interspersed with textual fragments hinting at the narrative, including “Wishing on a Star,” “Outgrow the System,” “The Poet’s Love(r),” “WHAT’SHOT”— which can be interpreted either as what’s hot or what shot— and “von William Shakespeare.”
